Probably not widely known, but split phase, cap run single phase motors can be run from VFDs. These motors are in effect a two phase motor and the generic AT2 VFDs are design to provide control for them.**LINK**

Bi-metal, triple tempered M42 cobalt high speed steel with hardened teeth. M42 tool steel, a type of molybdenum high speed tool steel, has good wear resistance and hot hardness along with high hardness values. See **LINK** ?

Thread: Level of qualifications in the UK
25/11/2020 21:27:15

With a level 6 qualification you would normally be looking at a professional/chartered engineers role or career path. With a level 3 or 4 it would be technician/trade type role. Obviously experience and specialist knowledge may effect the roles that are appropriate and blur the overlap. But if I was recruiting needing level 3 or 4 staff would need a fully explanation from someone with higher skill wanting the role. It will also depend on what size of organisation you apply to.

Arceurotrade supply some bellows which may be suitable. However you may be able to salvage what you have. Don’t let it dry out any further, a bit like the Mary Rose. You need a good leather saddle soap or a leather sofa treatment and slowly feed it. Once it supple you can remove section that beyond hope, patch the holes and replace pieces. Either glue or stitch or staple. Even just a gorilla tape mend. Option B is to replace with rubber sheet skirts, but seems a shame to change them if you can restore. Someone with an small industrial sewing machine could be useful and a trawl around charity shops for old leather jackets. I been there done that, have a machine, just the task indoors on a winters night?

Thread: What collet chuck dimentions for s Sieg SX2?
21/11/2020 11:01:01

seig do a large range, dealers don’t stock the entire range, but only a small offering. See or **LINK**

if you want a specific machine, find a good import agent and buy what you really want, rather than second best, cause the dealer has it. But echo as above , think before you hit the credit card.

i brought my X3 direct from Sieg ( before aximinster and arc were dealers, it was also cheaper to do so) and if you look at the options, they offered there own version of a collet system, which I have with 6,10,12 &16 mm collets. I also had the mt finger collects but have rarely used them. I have however acquired recently an autocollet as was given a large number of threaded end cutters. Previous used plain shaft cutters. Have serious think whether you chose R8 or MT, as limitations either way.

Thread: How to Adjust Old Breaker
20/11/2020 10:06:42

That just looks like an isolator, all Be it might have a current trip not the actual starter. Are you sure there is not a separate contactor that is operated by the start/ stop and already has NVR function?

If it the isolated the neutral should in my opinion be switched and the live feed in series via the other poles.

Thread: Spares stock...
20/11/2020 09:51:52

For the Myford I have temporary link belts, Tufnol gears and a few spare bolts including change gear stud. Written down what the belts are, but not holding any for other machines. Spare brushes for one of the mills DC Motor and spare Electronics chip for the CNC pulse generator . The rest more consumable than spares. Spare saw blades for bandsaw. Spare cup wheel for grinder. These latter items, like the chips and cups the carriage was more than the part so double up when last needed.

Spindle dia/ wheel bore 1 1/4”. 31.75mm but this is at the end of an extension tube, that bolted to a faceplate on the end of the motor spindle. Machine came without a wheel, but with some diamond disc and lots of flanges. Not sure that they came off this machine as we had several different grinders in the deal.

On the rear end is the suds pump. I will take some more pictures.......

Pump mounted on rear of motor, 3 phase fractional hp. Extension tube on front of motor to which spindle mounted. It came with the milling vice mounted, but i do have a 10x6 mag chuck, that came with it. Missing the rapid traverse lever, but of original cast box base/stand. It also had a perspex front suds screen. Was given a clean restored Herbert Junior, but this takes up less space and despite the condition does a better job for what i need.

I to have one of these and had given up hope of finding others with one. Mine came from a clearance of the laboratory at Morgan Advanced Materials in Stourport on Seven over 10 years ago. No idea how long it had been there. Like you I tracked IDP to Gloucester but could find no further details. Will post some pictures.

Thank you

Thanks, has cleared up that it is either/or and not both. I can understand going back to the original for SC, since it not actually a screw cutting reversing mechanism, which was mentioned as, at the top of thread. I have started to draught the layout in CAD and should be able to calculate the dimensions.
