Thread: CNC Model building board

Thank you guys. I am exploring all recommended options. John I would need max 10"x12" or anything smaller. The hardener suggestion is very interesting I am obliged to you.

Have applied for a sample of Valchromat and contacted Trespar. They are not cheap sadly I am!

Gentlemen - Thank you. Just to clarify. I tried cutting in normal MDF but even at 24000 rpm and a medium feed it was tearing out. Had to sand back very carefully with superfine paper avoiding the very shallow mortar grooves. Would like to find some board with a finer surface.

Hi - I am looking for advice in respect to CNC cutting some kind of model board with a high rev. 60 deg V cutter, such that I can detail bricks in OO/OH gauge.

Your advise appreciated.

Thread: Strange digital caliper behavior
21/12/2019 05:51:36

This may seem a little obvious?? But just try leaving the caliper on a radiator or similar overnight. Go buy a new best quality battery and fit this after little dab of mild solvent on the terminals. - Remove the battery, after use on the chinese ones, if you have the patience?

I have six or seven cheapies that occasionally crash and you may be surprised how often they can revived by drying.

Thread: Problems with "The Home Shop Machinist" website?
20/10/2019 07:55:53

Which of the three mags is best for a manual and CNC shop. Would like to see a mag, although the website download still seems to be inoperative.

Thread: DraftSight no longer free
25/09/2019 12:01:25

I switched to QCAD pro 4/5 weeks ago. It is amazing after a few hours of intro. what nice little touches there are in the workflow. Need to get used to the way of working. But finding new stuff all the time. I have been CAD/CAM ing for 40 plus years and that is the best £30 I have spent on software. No connection to the company whatsoever. Just a happy customer.

Thread: The Quick Step Milling Unit
21/07/2019 15:16:17

I am using a "Quick Step" Milling Unit as a router on my CNC. The unit is getting very hot and I wondered if anyone would know about lubrication in the gearbox. I have no manual of any kind.

If anyone has knowledge of these units, I would be most grateful for any advice.

Have you tried the CAM as I have not yet?

Had one under the bench for years and now want to use it on a hybrid M/c.

Thread: Free 2D drawing programs
12/04/2019 07:19:41

I have been a CAD draughtsman for 50 years now. Unbelievable! Just enjoyed trialling the free and semi-free CAD & CAM offerings since hearing about the end of free Draftsight. For me Librecad for 2D and Freecad for 2 and 3D. I suggest if you "put your time in" to assimilate yourself to the particular way of working in Freecad you will be well rewarded and then quite intrigued by its constant evolution, as I have been.

Thread: shaper machine unknown accessory

Can it adjust the fall back of the clapper box?

If so it could adjust either the clearance angle on the tool by slanting the clapper forward. Or by the same method finely adjust the the fallback to give an extremely fine Z axis height adjustment. Just thinking out loud!!

Thread: DraftSight no longer free

Try FreeCad 0.18 with the workbook DRAFT selected. Stick with the drawing approach for a bit and you will find a very useful tool. If you wish you can convert instantly to 3D or just save your file as 2D.

Here is brief overview of 2D :- **LINK**
