Thread: Free 2D drawing programs
12/04/2019 07:19:41

I have been a CAD draughtsman for 50 years now. Unbelievable! Just enjoyed trialling the free and semi-free CAD & CAM offerings since hearing about the end of free Draftsight. For me Librecad for 2D and Freecad for 2 and 3D. I suggest if you "put your time in" to assimilate yourself to the particular way of working in Freecad you will be well rewarded and then quite intrigued by its constant evolution, as I have been.

Can it adjust the fall back of the clapper box?

If so it could adjust either the clearance angle on the tool by slanting the clapper forward. Or by the same method finely adjust the the fallback to give an extremely fine Z axis height adjustment. Just thinking out loud!!

Try FreeCad 0.18 with the workbook DRAFT selected. Stick with the drawing approach for a bit and you will find a very useful tool. If you wish you can convert instantly to 3D or just save your file as 2D.

Here is brief overview of 2D :- **LINK**

Barrie - That was very interesting and helpful. Much appreciate your sharing the info.

Barrie - How did you make your wing tips?

Chris - Recently made some for a friend on cnc lathe from silver steel. Cut a single compression slit and the runout was less than a thou old money. Well worth a try.

Plus one on the awful spell checker. Can we not get a proper one?

s-l1600.jpgSussed it. Cabinet sits on and is angled backwards. My cabinet has frames attached to the base and so not immediately obvious.

dsc00580.jpgEmgee - Here are a couple of photo`s of the unidentified frame from inside the mill cabinet. Fabricated from 5mm ~ Steel. Assumed at first it was some kind of mount for the remote cabinet. But nothing appears at first sight to be compatible in terms of fixings.dsc00579.jpg

John & Michael - Many thanks.

Dave - Did you need the signal isolator board with the KBIC-125 please?

22/01/2019 08:42:34

Dave - Thanks. Just doing my costing for everything now. Better not let my wife see either.

Dave - Thanks for the info. If the wife is not watching, how much teeth sucking did you have to do please.

I am a Dunstable ex pat. See you are in BFDS.

DrDave - Ref F1 Acorn conversion. - Could I enquire as to how you connected the spindle motor (assuming it was the original?) I see you put in a KBIC driver. Was it difficult to configure at all please. Like Blitzer I would also appreciate stepper details

Thread: Hemingway Radius Grinding Attachment Ref: HK 1312
03/01/2019 18:41:26

Martin - Could you elaborate a little please. Afraid I do not understand what you are telling me.

03/01/2019 16:55:28

John thank you. - I think I can see how it works. But cannot see how to set up, if it is possible for a specific radius.

Perhaps I am seeking a method as opposed to the unit recommendation. - If the angle was set and a flat ground on the tool one side then swung round to grind the same angle on the other side. It seems this would give a reference edge and then `incrementing in` by the desired radius and carefully swinging between the two angles manually (or to pre-set stops of some kind) You could generate the radius. But it presupposes that you could register the centre of the pivot point in some way. - Not getting my head around that part. - Though I believe I have seen a setting post method with an accurate half flat milled on, to index with slips or vernier. So with a mushroom head pin of a known dia. located on the jigs pivot centre it seems it could be possible to register the position by touching off on the flat? - Have a cutter grinder with X & Y calibration to facilitate the settings.

My head is hurting now. Any input appreciated

Has anyone made the Hemingway Radius Grinding Attachment Ref: HK 1312 for the Wordon cutter grinder please? I am curious to know how the radius is measured and how accurately radii can be ground, for CNC lathe tools, Your experience gratefully received.

Thanks for your input. Suitably warned, will stick with the Kingston & Sandisk 64gb that I currently use,
