Thread: This months MEW are 3 CNC features two too many
31/05/2011 15:20:04
Hi Lawrie
The tone of the thread was the final push I needed.
I had been considering cancelling my subscription for some time, the number of cnc items was a consideration, but only a consideration.
My cancellation will not affect the self opinionated few, I know, but I have been finding less interest in MEW for some time now, so I will buy what I want and leave that I do not.
Time was when a reasonable discusion could take place without insults being thrown about, but that was in a luddite past

Hi again
Having read all the comments about flat earthers and luddites from people who do not agree with the views of others and regard themselves as vastly superior to normal mortals, I am writing to say that they have convinced me to cancel my subscription and just buy the magazines that have subjects that do interest me.
I should say that the atitude of these people has not changed over the years, they were still there well before cnc, and they knew everything then as they do now.
18/05/2011 16:01:17
Gosh, why didn't I think of that!
17/05/2011 17:36:29
Hi David
Your missing the point, read the number of people who did think 3 articles were too many.

Hi David,
ranting? - 4 long posts and sarcasm?

Hi
Having just read our editors opinion of those of us who do not share his enthusiasm for cnc equipment, I can see why we have had so many articals on the subject.

I object to being labled as being behind the times as he infers, just because I do not share his opinion, having spent most of my working life in electrical and electronic fields.

Some of those who spend all there spare time ranting to the rest of use mere mortals who have other interests apart from thier's should get out more and smell the roses.

Ian

Hi, totaly agree, we have had far too many cnc articles of late, whilst I am interested in computers and am not a luddite, I will have to consider my subscription, and as was stated earlier may go back to checking WH smith before I buy.
Thread: Tony Jeffree's Grinder letter in MEW175
15/03/2011 13:04:23
Hi

Whilst I agree Tony's letter was humorous, I do think that comments about a machine that he has not built or used are knocking as David says.

I do not regard myself as an expert, but had many happy hours building the Quorn and solving its problems.

Anyone who can build a steam loco should have no real difficulty with the build.

Ball handles add a touch of class (imo) and are not difficult to make.

I use the Quorn, and also a bench grinder, angle grinder, Dremmel and the Quorn head as a surface grinder, something other tool grinder do not do.

Many casting may be under benches, but that dos'nt mean that the one that get built are no use or not worth building.

There are many things not to like , but don't put others off because of what you think, you may be wrong.

Thread: Thanks for the non-gift?
13/10/2010 08:54:26
Hi
What are you complaining about? A free gift?
I subscribe to MEW, and have done for some years.
Here in UK we don't get the subscription gifts, they are for new subscribers only.
I would like to get a freebie, even if it was two years old.

Thread: What is the truth about "Tich"and "Minnie"?
12/09/2010 18:36:18
Hi
This is the kind of attitude that I suspect some clubs still show to beginner's.
50 years ago as a 16year old I wanted to join a local club, but the way I was treated put me off model engineering clubs for life.
I still see the same closed and blinkered attitudes today when visiting shows.
Despite the prejudice shown to a 16 year old I persevered on my own and enjoyed many happy hours in my workshop, thanks to ME and LBSC.

My first loco was Tich, and it taught me many skills.
Since then I have made and enjoyed making the Dore Westbury miller, Quorn and the VDH.

Don"t let other people decide what is best for you, take advice by all means and be prepared to learn from your mistakes, but enjoy what you want to do.

Thread: Coventry Die Head
02/08/2010 08:26:09
Hi
Link was active yesterday, I checked before posting.
Gives usage instructions.
I have used my die head on the lathe by drilling a hole through the mounting spindle and just helping the loose tailstock along.
This produced long lengths of 6 & 7 ba studding for use on building my Double Tangye engine. www.threadtools.com/Files/Coventry%20technical%20info.pdf

Hi Bill
Go on to google and put in coventry die head manual, the second post should answer all your questions on die heads.
