Thread: Myford spindle rectification or replacement
21/01/2021 09:39:03

Sorry but can’t see your problem, spindle thread is not for concentricity the the longitudal and cross registers look after that. Measuring a collet chuck runout that far from the spindle I am not surprised at those readings. As for the readings from the chuck how old did you say your lathe was?

Well done Graham something different and useful, also something to do with metal for a change. Look forward to updates.

Thread: Marine Engine Flywheel Fixing

Our leak compound has a keyed flange on the crank with two M8 socket headed grubscrews screwed through the flange directly over the key. Lateral movement is taken care of by the prop shaft thrust bearing mounted on a keel block.

Thread: Advice on best approach to milling recess in end bar

What if you start with he job vertical and finish up as per the last post then position job horizontal you would only be left with two tiny radiussed corners.

Thread: Drawing for a whistle

I made a 2 inch siren for mine and it drives the local dogs mad but I can’t hear it!!. Some things just don’t scale.

Thread: What nut and bolt material?
14/01/2021 22:55:19

I make and fit a lot of stainless fittings and never have trouble with galling because when assembled all parts are lubricated with either copaslip or hydraulic oil. How blingy they look is entirely up to you, as machined, scotchbrited or polished. Scotchbrited finish is good on vintage bikes as it looks close to nickel. Don’t forget that corrosion resistance is greater the more highly polished it is

I phoned peter (Peatol) last week and ordered quite a bit of stuff, just waiting for it to arrive.

Thread: Wallaby crankshaft
11/01/2021 18:02:51

Jason, thanks for the info but £25 for 6 inches is a bit rich for me!

11/01/2021 16:24:06

Unfortunately googling those bs numbers brings up zilch

Have reached the point where the crankshaft is next but not sure of best material to use, machinability, wear etc. American builders seem to favour 1144 stressproof steel but am having difficulty finding a European equivalent. Any help will be gratefully received.

Thread: Peatol Lathe
02/01/2021 09:46:20

Hello Nick, I also have one and use it regularly it is much modified with epycyclic saddle travel ,dro’s and Dti’s. I have also made a tailstock turret ( Stevenson Trophy 3rd place) which makes multiple small parts a doddle. If you need any photos pm me.

Looking at your video and the mismatched colours of your lathe I would suspect mismatched / worn parts that have been used to build it, possibly a bent clutch shaft as mentioned earlier. If you made your location known maybe somebody local to you could help?
