Hi Colin
i bought a Chester DB10GVS lathe, and a Champion 20V mill last september, and have no problems with either. I would try to go to the show at Harrogate in may if you can make it, where you can see all the main suppliers, and get some good advice from lots of guys who realy know what they are talking about ,most of them will offer advice on this forum, but it is never quite the same as a face to face chat.

Thread: Warco V Chester |

Hi Eric
I bought the Chester 20V a few months ago and I am well pleased with it so far.
I was warned off the cheaper versions, and told they are made in a different factory to the Warco and Chester jobs, and are of inferior quality. I would agree that if you live close to one or the other , it would make sense to buy from them.

I will second that chris. I bought a ER32 set just before christmass, with the intention of buying an ER32 chuck for the lathe when funds permit.

David,
How about an ideas page, for people who have done a mod to a machine, but do not wish to write a whole article. I am thinking a brief description, and maybe a photo or two to get folk thinking how they may adapt the idea to fit their own equipment. I am sure there are a lott of folk out there who dont need everything in detail to get o job done
Just an IDEA !!!!! Cheers Derek |

Terry, no offence intended. My comment was meant to suggest that old habits die hard. Whilst I have never had the title of "teacher", Ihave over the years trained very many apprentices, and as the MD of two Ltd. companies,(long since retired) I think I have a fair understanding of human nature, if not a a very good grasp of the finer points of the english language.
I do however agree with ady that there are FAR TO MANY RULES.
Sorry for any missunderstanding Cheers Derek Edited By magpie on 25/12/2010 10:16:38 |

I agree with everything said by John S above.I know lots of folk who go to harrogate every year, but will not go anywhere near the south east as public transport is too expensive and time consuming, and the roads are chaotic
Merry Christmass everyone Cheers Derek |

Thread: Cutting steel plate |

I have a 20 year old ELU jig saw that i often use to cut steel plate up to 1/4" thick, and have cut ally up to 5/8" thick. I only use Bosch blades with the correct No. of TPI for the job. I find it also helps to give the blade a tiny squirt of weld anti-spatter wich stops the blades clogging particulary on ally.

Thread: Which mill |

Hi Richard
I have the Axminster Micro-Mill X1 fitted with the long bed from Arc Euro making it the same spec as the X1L. I bought the mill 5 years ago (on special offer at the time ), and it has done everthing i have wanted it to do with no problems at all ( touch wood ), allthough i have to say it did need stripping down and deburring of all the slideways Etc. I have recently bought a Chester Champion 20V , as i now want to do bigger items that the small one could not handle, but i would still not want to part with the X1.

Thread: Midlands Model Engineering Show at Warwick |
22/10/2010 10:52:26 |
Hi Folks
My first ever post and it is a bit of a moan. I agree with Bogs and Nick that Donnington was far better, but it seems to me that all the show organizers want to get as far away from the north west as possible. I seem to recall that someone said prior to a recent show at ASCOT, that they were glad to have found somewhere more central !!!!!!! Will someone else please show that person a map.
