Thread: No refund
10/06/2022 10:34:54

I recently contacted the ME magazine publishers to cancel my subscription as I no longer wished to receive the magazine. They responded by telling me they had cancelled my subscription and that I would receive 14 more issues. I told them that didn't want the magazine and would they please refund me for the cost of the remaining 14 issues. They told me they didn't do refunds so I'm now out of pocket and will be receiving a magazine I no longer want.

24/05/2022 09:59:44

I dropped the speed down to 1000 rpm.and it worked fine,

I have been cutting some slots in aluminium using a 1/4" end mill running at 2800 rpm and hand fed with a depth of 30 thou. The aluminium is sticking to the end mill and closing up the flutes. How do I over come this

Thread: Create a "transfer"
28/04/2022 11:24:12

If you don't have any transfer paper you can create "transfer" in the following way

select design reduce to correct size and print out on ordinary printer paper

when ink is dried apply two coats of clear nail varnish allow drying between coats

cut out and soak in water

rub off paper and you'll be left with a "transfer" ready to be applied.

Thread: self catering v independent
03/08/2021 09:42:19

I've been turning (conquest super) some 1/2" square MS. down to 7/16" Dia. Each cut was 0.010 over a length of 2", supported by a centre in the tail stock and held in a 4 jaw self entering chuck. The intermittent cutting caused the chuck to open slightly and the job to come loose. Would I have been better using a 4 jaw independent chuck.

Thread: Which tap

Thread: Boring head graduations
22/05/2021 09:59:13

I have a boring head from Arc Euro. The graduated dial to increase the radius of the tool only has graduations and no indication of how much each graduation represents. Any idea ?

Thread: Boring head or fly cutter
12/02/2021 10:34:18

The machine is a Warco WM14 cutting mild steel 2" wide by 4" long

11/02/2021 10:10:56

I have a small amount of machining to do that requires fly cutting. Would you use a boring head which I have or get a fly cutter.

Thread: What machine tools are these?
28/01/2021 10:25:44

The hammer in the background is a planishing hammer. I can remember using one in the school metal work class to decorate a copper serviette ring.

Thread: How do these work

In the village near where I live (Ticknall, Derbyshire) there are a number dotted about the village.

Their history can be seen here

Am I missing something here. Everyone is giving a load of calculations. Why not just divide 0.365 by 0.025. simples.
