arceurotrade (advert near top right on this page) do a modification kit for the ML7 cross slide handle which makes operating it much better.
There is some machining required to fit the parts so I’ve linked to the details here:-

It’s about the third illustration down on the linked page and looks just like the one in your photo.

I have not needed to look at Part P for a long time and understand that it changes, but consumer units used to be specifically mentioned as requiring notification. That’s why I suggested checking.
