Thanks Jason

Hi Jason

I have made my own, some good, some not so good

I now have to make a new set of con rods and pistons for my engine, the one you helped with by sending me the cylinder head drawing.

I was hoping to buy some better quality ones to save time and inprove the compression

I tried the link you sent but just get an error message

Can anyone tell me where I can find some 21mm dia piston rings, are there any suppliers out there?

Thread: broken globe valve
20/05/2017 12:54:23

Thanks Jason

How is it used?

20/05/2017 09:25:17

I have a small brass globe valve that was screwed to a steel spigot

The steel part has snapped off inside the valve and all my attempts to remove it have failed

Is there any chemical way of eroding the steel and leaving the brass intact ? I have used electrosis to remove rust in the past and was thinking of this method but I am unsure what it will do to the brass

Any thoughts?

Thread: Workshop thermal gloves- advice please

I use little things called hotties

They are like large tea bags with a chemical mixture inside that reacts with moisture in the air to create heat

Kept in a pocket they work wonders when my digits get too cold

Thread: subscription offer

Thanks for the replies

I will have a go with a few tests later

Can anyone tell me if there is a chemical that will etch aluminium like ferric chloride works for brass?

Thread: oakey resin fibre discs
09/01/2017 20:26:25

Thanks Ed

Those are what I'm after

08/01/2017 17:39:38

Thanks Kwil

I tried those sites before but no one seems to stock them

I tried calling Oakey, but the woman I spoke to didn't know what a resin fibre wheel was and couldn't help me

08/01/2017 16:22:50

Apologies if this has been asked before but I am having trouble finding some of the resin fibre abrasive discs made by Oakey

The ones I'm looking for are the red coloured ones that B&Q used to sell, 100mm Dia

Has anyone any idea where I can find some?

Thread: I think this is a scam

Well, "Willy", has been reluctant to get back to me so I'm going to assume it was a scam

Thread: Pinning a crankshaft.

I use roll pins and sink them a little lower than the surface and fill with car body filler if it is to be painted or silver steel filed flush if it is left bright

Lets see what happens

Thread: nieuport 17c plan No RSQ1641
02/07/2016 09:09:27

Thi is the worst drawing I have ever bought

It is a copy of plans sold by another site who advertise it as a three sheet plan

I got a two sheet that had been cut and pasted together before printing resulting in one wing missing ant text cut in half

Dont waste your money

Thread: I think this is a scam
02/07/2016 09:04:04

I got this email today from someone calling themselves Willy Williams about the traction engine ad I posted. The boiler is pretty evident in the pic I posted

It looks like a scam to me, has anyone heard of this guy?

Hi there,

I wondered if you could perhaps send some more details or photos of the traction engine please, I'm interested in a project.

Does it have a boiler please,

Thread: EN1A Leaded steel
01/01/2016 12:40:23

Can anyone tell me if en1a leaded steel would be ok for cylinder liners as opposed to cast iron. The piston would be aluminium with cast iron rings

19/12/2015 16:27:31

I got some drills recently that were described as worm drills

They are basic HSS but have a lower helix compared to normal drills. They are not as low as those designed for brass

Anyone any idea of their specific aplication?

Thread: Custom paint suppliers
27/11/2015 07:02:09

If you are looking for a petrol proof paint then the one I use is URKI LAC, from spraystore, once it dries it is very resistant to petrol but I think it is cellulose based

The alternatives I use occasionaly are known as machine enamels, these are available as spray or brush on but arn't as petrol proof as URKI LAC, I dont know about the availability as a satin finish

01698 265531, give them a call to see if they can help
