Thread: plastic containers
30/06/2009 12:32:29
Hi There
Allendale electronics have started doing trays to store cutters on.
Basically plastic with semicircular grooves in.
They are properly moulded, not blow moulded.
They are just over £1 a piece +P&P.
They are excellent value for money.

Thread: Model Engineer Page Count increase and free plans
30/06/2009 07:58:32
Hi here
Gauge 1 is a possibility.
This gauge is getting very popular.
I will see what I can do.
Perhaps we can convert some larger gauge modellers.

Thread: New Subscription Freebies
28/06/2009 10:46:25
Hi There
Management have said that a small proportion of content will be locked for subscribers only. This is being worked on at the moment but is likely to go live soon. I am not sure if this is a good or bad thing. I also need to decide what content to lock up.

I have suggested we put a PDF of back issues of MEW onto the locked portion for subscribers only starting with issue 1 and adding another issue each fortnight.

We can legally do this as long as the magazine is published in its entirety including adverts and with no changes.

That would satisfy MEW subscribers but what would Model Engineer subscribers like to see?

regards david

Thread: acid pickle
27/06/2009 08:27:52
Hi there
I bought Citric acid crystalsfrom Ebay.
I always look on Ebay before buying anything.
Don't always find it cheaper on Ebay but it often saves money.

Thread: Super 7 patterns when turning
27/06/2009 08:24:41
Hi there
I would think that you have wear or slack on the carriage causing it to oscillate back and forth.
Have you adjusted the front gib strip?

If this does not work and you have a mill, you could lightly skim the edge nearest you and the middle edge. Make sure the carriage is set square on the mill before doing this
I believe most Myfords were run on the front of the bed.

I did this once a long while ago.
Can't remember the reason other than a lot of wear was present and the lathe bed had been reground so was perfect.

I used a small cutter so I only took material of the front and back, not the top face that runs on top of the lathe bed. You might need to pack the front gib afterwards with a bit of shim at the front.

Thread: Exploitation of designs for commercial gain.
24/06/2009 16:29:46
Hi There
That is not quite what I said.
Obviously if someone builds a loco and later decides to sell it or his heirs sell it, not a problem.
It was never built for sale in the first place but for the use and delight of the original builder.

22/06/2009 16:55:31
Hi There
The offer normally lasts for 28 days, the time the magazine is on sale.
Then they order the books from that offer and send them out. This normally takes 30 days.
This is about 58 days.
I will shout at them again.

Thread: Model Engineer Page Count increase and free plans
22/06/2009 13:38:45
We are looking at increasing the page count for model Engineer.
I have suggested increasing by 4 pages of articles and using the remaining 4 pages for two double sided plans.

The plan would effectively be an A3 plan that although smaller than the more usual larger plans from the plans service will still be useful to the model maker and be perfectly readable. They will also take up less room on the workshop wall.

Same low price?
Yes, a price increase is not being considered.

This would effectively increase the page count by 8 pages to 68.
This would be the same page count as MEW and also 20 more pages than a competing magazine that costs more than Model engineer.

So, what plans would you like to see included?
A martin Evans locomotive will be on one side and Westbury drawings will be on the other side. I also hope to include PDF's of the relevant articles on this web site.

I hope this will be ongoing and not just for a few weeks.

So, what would you like to see included?

regards David
