Hi There
I have not said it is incorrect but that it scales at 3/4inch.

Hi There
I have a copy of the original drawings that are to scale.
The cylinder pitch is 6inches to centreline and runout is 3/8 down.

Hi There
I see what you mean now, the two inside holes at 17/8 apart.
Does look like an error.
I suggest you try using a bit of 3/8 x 1/4 bar for footplate support and drilling holes to suit or fill the footplate holes with a ctsk rivet and redrill the holes slightly closer together.
I will talk to Tony with a view to publishing a correction.

Hi There
I have just looked at the drawing.
Front holes in footplate appear to be 3/8 back, 1/4 + 1/8.
That means 2inch from back.
Is this what you mean?

Hi There
Filing the 10H soleplate underside is covered in ME 4358 that went to press yesterday.
Subscribers will get it from next Saturday onwards and it will be in the newsagents n a fortnight.

Next I have to machine the trunk guide slot in the horizontal soleplate.

The postman has just delivered a Stuart Victoria to follow on from the 10's.

Hi There
Once you have marked the centerline of the main horn, the 6 inch dimension is struck from that along the angle. I don't see how it can be out?

Do you have a protractor to mark out the angular cylinder holes?

Thread: spin indexers
30/07/2009 14:20:28
Hi There
Spin inexers are useful but only work to 1 degree divisions.
What is usefule is that you can make your own plates and they don't neeed to be equispaced.
You can make them to suit the job.
I have done this on a couple of occasions.

Also you can drill holes in the plate to bolt the component to as well.

Spin indexers take 5C collets and they can be difficult to tighten up tightly.

Hi There
Neville has designed another GWR 0-4-2 and construction will be starting in Model Engineer very soon.
Perhaps this might be a better bet for you. I think it is the 517 class possibly based on the actual locomotive Fair Rosamund. I am expecting the first article with GA drawings any minute now.
