Thread: Which graduating tool?
09/12/2021 16:31:22

Hi Andrew, Harold Hall has a design in his Workshop Practice book on Dividing No 37, ISBN 1-85486-238-3. I don't have this book but I am sure others on this site do and can comment.

Looks like Pro Machine Tools are back, however, I have already bought the gears directly from the OEM and saved a lot of money. Thanks to all who offered assistance.

Thread: Machining Radius
08/08/2021 12:36:53

To calculate the answer:

1. Add the 15mm radius to the radius of the cutter, 15+10=25 and square the result = 625.

2. Add half the thickness of the bar to the radius of the cutter, 8.75+10=18.75 and square the result = 351.5625

3. Subtract the result of 2 from 1, 625 - 351.5625 = 273.4375 and take the square root of the result = 16.5359

I contacted Pro Machine Tools Ltd through their Ebay account and they are still trading but are struggling to get parts from the EU which is why their website has been down.

Hi Pete,

The issue I am having is with the connection between the gears as the drive teeth have worn. Both of these gears are on the same shaft with the splined gear driving the other gear. This is causing chattering when I start the lathe in the two highest speeds which is the only time these gears are engaged with each other. I have created an album called "Gears and Stuff" that has more images in it but the two attached images show the worn teeth on both gears. I will make sketches the gears and add these to the album. The teeth are about 0.030" smaller than the slot they engage with.

Thanks,

Dave

Thank all for your responses and the link to the other thread. I have been trying for some months now and phoning too but to no avail hence my conclusion that they had ceased trading.

Hi Folks, Could anyone recommend a supplier of head stock gears now that Pro Machine Tools Ltd appear to have stopped trading?

Many thanks,

Dave
