Thread: Rapide-Lime hand shaper
17/07/2020 11:29:32

Hello. I've recently acquired a Rapide-Lime shaper. There seem to be no posts on this subject, so I was wondering if there's anyone out there to share the grief/joy of ownership and who has any useful hints, suggestions or contacts they might like to share.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thread: Moving a Hole in Cast Iron
14/07/2020 14:31:04

Thanks all.

The hole is 1/4" diameter. I wish to move it between half and one diameter. I can't drill it out larger and plug it as there is not enough material on one side of the hole, so I have to plug the hole and redrill half the plug and half the casting, if you see what I mean.

I wish to move a hole in cast iron about half a diameter. I have neither the skill nor equipment to braze in a plug and redrill.

What are my options?

Thread: Can a Wiggler be Used Horizontally?

I found a post saying 'yes' to this question with an expired link. Will someone please give me a definitive answer couched in terms suitable for the hard of thinking. Ta.

Thanks chaps. A lot of info there.

Is it a bad idea to use TC inserts/brazed tips on a shaper, due to the intermittent nature of the cut?

Thanks, Steve

Thread: Elliott M10 Tapered Ram and slideways
01/07/2020 15:05:38

I have an Elliott M10, which I picked up relatively cheaply a few years ago. Ive never used it because the "engineer" who owned it omitted to lubricate the ram and ways, so the mating surfaces have become damaged and rough and there is a degree of taper to the ram or ways, or both.

Has anybody got any pearls of wisdom vis-a-vis repairs, either by filing and scraping (I have no way of gauging truth and flatness and have no experience of scraping), or by sending the (heavy) parts off to someone (Whom? And how much?)?

All information gratefully received,

Thanks, Steve.
