Thread: ME BEAM ENGINE - Something to Run.
10/01/2021 19:07:36

Jason -- it is based on a pumping engine. Pumping engines did not have pulley wheels to drive something when first conceived.

My cornish ancestors worked at Harveys at Hayle who made them

Their main role was as a pumping engine or as a man engine.

Google the terms for explanation to save forum space.

After its initial use,as above, then adding cogs and drives came at a later date,

Something to run.

1) Pump, as per original use. A Cornish boiler would make an nice original set up.

2) Dynamo and lights, but as beam engines only turn over slowly, would need suitable gearing up for dynamo speed.

3) Workshop as video.

Jason 's workshop suggestion is a good one.

No problem just make one without the boiler !   crying

Tony . I think that is what he has done

He says in his original post :-

I am nearing completion of this great model.

On completion I next want to make a model that the Beam Engine can drive.

PM do a nice dynamo - recently had one, which in turn can power up engine room lights.

Having had kits from both suppliers as mentioned by Jason, I have a preference for PM.

Hello Nigel ,

Its great to see someone showing models on the site ! Instead of the usual boring subjects . After all it’s called model engineering ! Not what lathe etc should I buy .

Tony Wright raises an intesting point .

Yes it would be good to see someone showing models so how about it please, members?

Would be good if he  posted a picture of his Minnie to get the ball rolling.

I will sort some over the next day or two,

Alister

These various locations you mention only assists the scammer and could be tightened up .

Perhaps ebay should tie the location into their registered address so member location cannot be altered.

Collection from ? -- could then be an add on or seller to put in listing

That would stop children from selling a deceased parents workshop and if the seller puts the real location as Dunoon we are back where we started.

Sorry I do not follow your reasoning .

Seller lives in London Deceased parents workshop is in basingstoke for example

Seller lists on ebay giving london as location of seller

Seller then says items are in and to be collected from Basingstoke.

I have seen sellers do this many a time. All above board as far as I can see?

Rod

I think ebay do their best and they tell me they have had several calls this morning reporting the new listing

They said they cannot always deal with immediately, especially with working fromhome, but noted the 24 hour listing to try and beat them sorting which has now been given priority.

Also it seems that saying you live in one place but put selling in a different place is acceptable.

There was something about it on the mamod forum back along where the seller lived in Hull but items were listed on ebay using  Guernsey as the location ?
