If you prefer to buy all items as a package, GLR Kennions do a fine 4 inch dia vertical kit with flanged and spotted end plates, also Forest Classics keep the PMR vertical and horizontal kits again with flanged plates.

Joe at Macc Models on 01614082938. Keeps 4, 5 and 6 inch in stock plus the smaller flue tubes, foundation and firehole items. Well pleased with past service.

Bill

As Jason above.

Try Station Road Steam archive - plenty of pictures there of the boiler backhead.

The water gauges all seem to be on the L H side and on two seperate bushes for WG only, one above the other.

Cannot see any connected to the manifold.

Hope this helps.

Just phoned my B & Q and asked, just out of curiosity, and they say theirs have a brass terminal.

They suggest you may have a faulty item and said to return it.

Is it possible to use a bolt as a stud and fit a ring treminal to your earth wire ?

Google search, put in -- UNIMAT LATHE BOOKS. Good selection including one on useful accessories.

Also - THE MINI LATHE book is worth having - bought mine from Amazon.

There is a model engineering society in Telford. May be worth considering..

Welcome Ian.

My oldest is a 1908 Triumph, with pedals .

MadMike's suggestion of a visit and a chat is the way I went . Lots of helpful advice on here, but a face to face and a look and possible try ticks the right boxes for me.

My MGB dash was done in the car using masking tape.l heated the dash with a hairdryer and a good result with the finish.

Bob

Bob, that is encouraging. Manufacturer or source would be appreciated. Thanks.

Disastrous results - ebay purchase. VHT wrinkle plus at £11.99.

Supposed to give an MGB dashboard finish which is what I am after.

Any hints, tips, or recommendations as to which paint to buy more than welcome.

It is for a small SEL steam engine and black crackle was original but if it is a problem paint I can settle for matt black,

Thanks

Another question - the seals in the brass caps look like leather. Would that be right?

George

Mine are all leather discs, ie no hole - somewhat hard now, but as last used in original condition.

The SHELL ones in the collection have M & R stamoed on one of the ears.

Caribou in 3.5 inch gauge , wheelbase 1.25 feet, using figures in Jason's post gives an ideal radius of 25 feet, and a minimum of 15 feet.

Bill

25/09/2019 09:05:14

I think it is the maximum wheelbase likely to be used, multiplied by a factor of 20.

Worth keeping and sympathetically restoring.

Collectable item from the 1930's known as a Shell Duo.

There is one on ebay at £695 with plenty of detailed pics of the oil can

Nice item - a replica oil can would make an interesting project now you have the pictures.

Its when the seller gets friends or acquaintances to bid on their auctions to drive the price up

Bidders being able to remain anonymous does not help.
