Thread: Steel Rule Graduations Re-Blacking
Thanks Phil, I’ll try that.
Well I tried the Black Engravers wax and that was a failure. I think the trouble is that the markings are not deep enough. Might give up and buy a new rule!
Thanks for all the replies, I have ordered some Black Engravers Wax to try that. Will report back when I have tried it.
Question for you all, some of my steel rules are getting difficult to read as the graduations are no longer black. Any ideas how best to restore them please?
Thread: Junior hacksaw blades
I think you will find that junior hacksaw blades are not high speed steel like the better quality normal hacksaw blades generally are.
Thread: Motor reverse switch 3 phase
One phase say Red goes straight to the motor not via the switch! Then use the switch to reverse the other two phases round to reverse the motor.

Thread: Model Steam Fire Engine 1908 Frank Finch
Thanks Bob, that’s useful. A friend of mine recently showed me some pictures of a model fire engine which I thought might be to this design. It turns out that it is actually a Bing produced model.
Does anyone on here have access to the Model Engineers from 1908 describing the Model Steam Fire Engine Design by Frank Finch please?
Thread: Mild steel wheel blanks
Yes laser cutting can leave a hard skin, suggest you tickle them with an angle grinder first.
Thread: College Engineering Supplies rotary table
Yes it is for controlling the mesh of the worm. I have the drawings and can post them if anyone is interested.
I built one years ago, I don’t recall any particular issues, I can post some pictures of it if you want.
