Spark testing to identify different metals can be very informative - as well as fun.

I'm a bit of an early bird as I'm radio amateur and it's a good time for Australia/New Zealand contacts.

Hi Ian,

I find the 3" fine but the 4" should fit as there seems to be enough room and it would probably be a bit better.

Amazing man, The planes that he flew and survived them, what skill and daring!

I noticed from the credits that the programme was actually made in 2014, maybe it's available on the I player.

I watched it the first time it was aired, forget when but a few months back, so it ought to be available on iPlayer by now.

Been using Hermes for years sending an average of 4 parcels a week and receiving 1 or 2. No problems.

NewsFlash

Just received ebay 'offers' including these O-Rings at what looks like a very reasonable price.

I have a box of those, they're very good and he also does four other different boxed selections.

eBay item number 131720676238 is in UK and said to be ground stock. I would send the seller a message seeing if he will select you a piece that's precisely 3.00mm Many eBay sellers are very helpful.

Thread: Paid for digital subscription but told I don't have access

Posted by mechman48 on 18/02/2016 11:06:45:

I have just renewed my subscription for print & digital issues; after having second thoughts when I received my renewal notice... last September ! & having read all the probs members were having I decided to hang on 'till this month, the renewal notice included a discount code to be used when renewing either... on line. by tel. or by cheque I decided to call MTM tel.#, having checked my membership # ( still valid ) I renewed by credit card. I was informed that my subscriptions would continue as normal with March issue.

Having given it a couple of days I checked access to digital copy via MEW website & I was pleasantly surprised to have access to all digital copies going back to issue # 1 - summer 1990, I now await to see if print copy arrives next month as promised, so far I don't expect any problems, so I can honestly say that renewal has been straightforward for me, this time, mind you, as said I did hang on 'till the last minute, can't see the point in renewing when there's still 6 mo. to end of subscription period.

George.

That's the information I couldn't get clearly stated so, that being the case, I'll probably take out a print and digital subscription shortly.

Thread: Use of domestic room as a workshop
09/02/2016 16:24:28

I had a friend who set up his workshop in an upstairs spare room, lathe, mill the lot. It was not ideal, too much noise in the house and, despite all precautions, swarf did get carried around the house.

A shed down the garden is okay until it's pouring with rain.

Best bet is an adjoining garage and leave the car outside (they're weather-proof and don't need cosseting)

Thread: Old PC Linux
08/02/2016 10:06:50

Will,

Unix, from which Linux is derived has been around since the late 1970's when you were still a young man. So it's not so much something new as that something passed by you unnoticed

No eBay is not owned by Google. Major individual shareholder is still the founder Pierre Omidyar.

How strange. I've not had this problem and get quite a lot of stuff from China. In fact several packages in the last week or two have actually arrive quicker than expected.

I use 120 grit - gives a reasonable finish. You'll have to navigate to the page for your size.
