Thread: I wish mine was like that!

If you’re dim enough to believe anything a seller states in an advert, then you deserve all you get.

Thread: Dementia
20/01/2020 13:50:26

Someone in the family was diagnosed a couple of years ago, she’s now in full term care, really shocking decline.

Thread: Gunmetal or brass
17/01/2020 22:27:18

If it helps Brass is yellow, Gunmetal is darker and more orange, looks like brass and copper mixed.

Thread: VFD Question
09/01/2020 12:48:06

Many years ago i helped a mate who lived a few doors away build a wood turning lathe.

We knocked it up in my garage and fitted a used single phase motor, it ran perfectly.

When he plugged it in at home it ran in reverse.......much head scratching.

Eventually brought the motor back to mine and it ran the correct way every time, but at his place it ran the other way.

Never really got to the bottom of it.

‘Very light’ Are you sure it’s not Dibond composite ally sheet. Very common in the sign industry 👍

Have had quite a few harrisons, L5’s L5a’s L6’s, 140’s they were all stamped with a serial number on the bed, tailstock end. There is a list on lathes.co.uk which will tell you the year of production from the number.

Thread: Harrison L5A 11" - VFD set up & spare parts needed
16/12/2019 17:03:07

Just remembered Bede Tool and Machinery are breaking an L5, not sure if parts are interchangeable but worth an ask. Advert is on Facebook, but probably worth giving them a call to discuss.

You will need to take the motor apart and dig out the star point to run it from an inverter. I would forget using the original switches and contactors etc. Wire the inverter direct to the motor.

L5a has a clutch, so once the motor is running, just leave it running and use clutch for stop start.

Forward and reverse is handled mechanically.

Define ‘small’ what are the dimensions of the hole, and what wall thickness ?

Thread: Inverters and stop switches
06/11/2019 19:56:30

Brian

Both of my inverters have the E Stop wired into the low voltage ‘Control’ side of the inverter. The lathe has a pendant with Forward, Reverse, Jog and E stop switches, wired to the inverter using alarm type multicore cable.

Thread: diameter calculation

To quote my old gaffers well used phrase

“Come on lads, we’re not making gold watches here”...........

Thread: Threading on Colchester triumph 7 1/2
10/10/2019 12:57:38

Have a nice Ainjest high speed threading unit to fit that lathe if you are interested ? Makes thread cutting so much easier.

Thread: Why does the micrometer have a second knurled segment
05/09/2019 22:13:53

The second knurled grip is designed to afford the user better purchase when using the micrometer as a hammer during squaring operations and such like.

Thread: Frustration
02/09/2019 12:05:06

Well that’s one less you have to make.......

Thread: Is the price of this model boat at all realistic
01/09/2019 17:10:10

If it sells then its realistic.........market decides what things are worth, not sellers.

Thread: Dumb question from a none driver

Well thats whats confusing me. How do i prove im the owner if needed?

My son has insured it and taxed it today..

Edited By mark smith 20 on 31/08/2019 00:40:12

Did you get a receipt in your name when you bought it ? If so that’s your proof. No one will ever ask for proof unless there is a dispute over ownership between you and your son. And yes the seller should have filled in the existing V5c with your sons details (if he was to become registerd keeper), and sent of to DVLA Your son will receive a new V5c in his name in due course.

No such thing as a Registered Owner.

Although Registered Keeper doesn’t mean said person is the owner of the vehicle.

Confusing.........you bet

The owner is generally the person who paid for the car, which could also be the registered keeper

Confusing........you bet.
