It is actually people like this who make me feel a bit sad QLD billionaire gives no rent relief to affected tenants

I know a few wealthy people, some are sympathetic such as this bloke Twiggy Forrest

If I had a $1 million tucked away for a rainy day then maybe cutting a bit of slack to the people who helped me make such a fortune would be the decent thing to do.

But then, some people get to be billionaires by just being ruthless bast***s.

That's the world that we live in, unfortunately!

Coronavirus Pandemic, day 24.

If anyone is still out there, I’m alive but struggling. Food is running low. Down to only 459 days worth. My hands are super sanitized and my bottom is super clean. Down to 2399 rounds of ammo (dropped 1 round down the heat vent while doing daily inventory). Power still on, but for how long? Missing human interaction but I have my dogs.. for now.. (I'm soaking their food in BBQ sauce in an attempt to marinate them from the inside in case I have to eat them) . I fear dark days ahead. News is all bad. Neighbors have attempted to leap from windows to their death, (or near death... most have single story homes so they are badly bruised). Blew through most Netflix series so may have to rewatch some again..Basic Survival is a definite challenge. I vow to persevere to the end, I am a survivor! Please, if there is life out there, communicate with me to help preserve my sanity..

All the serious You Tube stuff suggests 6metres/ 20feet is the safe separation to aim for.

So then I read about this Social Distancing

What a sad state of affairs when a person tries to do the right thing and gets busted for it!

Where do you all find toilet rolls to conduct these experiments?

I just hope that my bills can be printed on toilet paper.

A never ending supply!

So why does your 'powers that be' allow the crowding of people in the London Underground Tube System?

I saw the videos. Totally stupid IMHO.

Just out of total boredom I actually tuned into a TV channel that had no scary news stories and found myself watching a movie that was based on a traction engine.

I never realised just how big the machines actually are. Not sure about bashing the valve thingy with a large hammer is best practice though.

Remembered the name of the movie and found a linky The Iron Maiden

I finally lost it...Was just in Safeway. Saw a man whose cart was FULL to the brim with hand sanitizers, baby wipes, soap and toilet rolls - everything that people need!! I called him a selfish A, and gave him a low down about the elderly, mums, and people who need these types of things. Told him he should be bloody ashamed of himself!

He said: “Are you finished? Cause I really need to get back to restocking the shelves now...”

When our Day Club Link Club met today there were a few regulars missing, including one who was confined to her (gated) retirement villiage.

As we run a weekly raffle it was decided to offer additional goodies: - All the bags of Kit-Kats, Bounty Bars and other treats (that are normally used for quiz prizes) have expiry dates so we made the decision to share them among the attendees. Easter is coming so a few chokkies come in handy anyway.

What was interesting was that one of the committee included a roll of toilet paper among the raffle prizes (as a joke) and the elderly (96 years old) lady who selected it as her prize remarked that it was the first toilet roll that she had managed to obtain in two weeks.

This actually made me feel sad.

Anyway, managed to cheer them up a bit when I reminded them that their pension was a more secure income than the people who had casual jobs and now face bleak prospects.

Of possible concern is the idea that desperate people turn to criminal activities to survive. One only has to search for and read the various published documents regarding "Crime vs Unemployment" to gain an insight into the potential issues.

Maybe that's why some people stock up on various items.

I plan to self isolate to the middle of Lake Hume with my fishing rod. Plenty of fuel for the boat, plead guilty to panic buying hooks and lures. Neighbours might appreciate a bit of fresh fish.

Also have plenty of ammo. Neighbours also like fresh rabbit and venison. Hardest to obtain was black powder for the .44 muzzle loader but have plenty of lead for casting the balls (which also make good fishing sinkers when drilled).

Workshop full of unfinished machining projects and models for when the weather turns nasty.

Tomorrow I plan to raid the local hobby shop and stock up on balsa and glue.

On a more serious note; I have informed the secretary of our Day Club that tomorrow's (19th) meeting shall be our last until further notice due to the vulnerable age of our members. We shall update their contact details and ascertain whether they have support from family/friends for basic necessities. Otherwise I feel that it is our duty to organise some help for the most vulnerable members.

Here in Oz the major supermarkets have announced that the first hour of opening shall be restricted to pensioners and concession/health care card holders.

Nice move, but I hope that gen XYZ don't blame the baby boomers for taking all their dunny rolls or maybe they will just hang around in the carpark and mug us as we emerge with the loo-t

Also Woolworths (Australia) plan to shut down 1000 stores to allow them to restock **LINK**

I found plans for a DIY bidet online btw. **LINK**

Could be the basis for an MEW article if Neil is not flush with articles.

I am the co-ordinator for a Day Club.

Basically a place for elderly residents of Albury/Wodonga to spend a few hours each week enjoying each others company, playing games, gently exercising and answering simple quizzes for mental stimulation. Sponsored by the Department Of Veteran's Affairs (an Australian Government entity)

The average age of our members is about 78 years old.

After consulting with the other volunteers we decided that if/when the local schools in Albury/Wodonga are directed to close down then our little club shall do the same and resume when it is announced that the schools are open again.

This was a difficult decision to make but as the elderly are much more vulnerable than the younger generation this seems like the best solution to a potential nasty problem.

As a re-loader of ammunition for my centerfire rifles the problem of 'secondary ignition' is a known phenomenon that has destroyed a few rifles.

The recipe for disaster is to load a small amount of fast burning propellant into a cartridge case (maybe for subsonic velocity or just fire-forming the cases to a new calibre).

The current thinking is that if the propellant is unevenly distributed through the case (pointing the barrel down is bad news) then the primer ignition is sufficient to propel the projectile into the rifling where it jams until the primer flash ignites the propellant which then detonates due to the large surface area exposed to the flash.

With a projectile jammed into the rifling a pressure spike could result that could destroy a rifle.

Sorry that this was not related to shotguns but all I can say is 'Just be careful'

That's the stuff that gathers the data our advertisers ask for to justify continuing to advertise with us (and thereby pay for this website).

Neil.

I assumed that if one actually clicked on an advertisment hosted by this site then this site would justify it's existence and get a kick-back from the sponsors.

Thread: Lathes & Mills for Domestic Repairs

Not exactly lathe and mill work but I did sharpen and hone all my friends kitchen knives and also ran the fine diamond lap over the edges of the vegetable peeler and the food processor blades.

End result was one very happy lady friend.
