|Thread: Electrical switch for a Myford ML7|
hi all, wonder if any electrician can help, I have a switch which was supplied from Myford at beeston some time ago , not a dewhurst switch but a square plain forward and reverse switch , photos can be sent if required. I have had to take it apart to release the wiring from under the bench as the lathe is bench mounted, have taken note of the wiring, but a wire has flipped out from a capacitor which I do not know where I t goes, can anyone help please, thanks
|Thread: Tom senior|
Hi Plasma, thanks for your reply, there was a question I would like to ask, I have of course taken a lot of photos as I have proceeded with the strip down, but found in the tray I used, a ball bearing and spring, now this may have been in the tray already, but just to make sure, I wondered whether you came across here items on your strip down. I don’t believe there are any ball bearings or springs that are loose in the Tom M1, it could only be from the selector on the top shaft, but this just slots in via a sprung turned knob which was not stripped down. Any thoughts please
hi, has anyone out there every taken the spindles of the Tom Senior M1 completely apart from the column, some of the bits just do not match the flimsy manual

It is a well known fact that although cheaper, in some cases to buy, third world machines are not as robust as second hand British equivalents. The overriding factor is that companies offer accessories with their machines which are attractive to buyers, but this is not always economical, you still pay for those accessories but it is a hidden cost as the machines themselves have such a good markup on profit, you pay for the lack of quality in both the steel and cast iron. Understandably , everyone is on a budget, but it can be a false economy in the long run.
