Still doesn’t explain why it’s always the last 10ba hole in a cylinder casting you’ve worked hours on , for the tap to snap ! 😢 .

Thread: Tender locos for a beginner?
31/01/2021 18:38:27

Have you considered buying a second hand locomotive ? Cost wise will be very cheap compared to building from scratch !Also you will have something to play with if you diside again to build from scratch. I consider myself a quick builder but my first two locomotives (rob Roy and eagle) took Twelve months a piece to build and my 2 1/2 gauge Evans black 5 seven years ! So don’t be in a rush 😃

Pattern making ,piece of cake . As a cabinet maker I made many patterns for vacuum forming also for model aircraft manufacturers. It’s not difficult is it ? Well it wasn’t for me ! Also the tracked device when do you want on ? Give me a shout and I will quote you a price! Also what have these crafts got to do with 3D or model engineering,

coach builders? Boat builders? The joiner that built the circular staircase in the corner !

Looks nicer with washers ! But there isn’t any law that says you have to .Sometimes you have to make yourself own decisions. 😊

I like smelly old diesels . As well as modern electrics .But have no interest in plastic airplanes .static or flying.Oh just because I’m no interested in 3D printing doesn’t make me wrong! Again just my opinion!!!

29/01/2021 12:41:58

Oh that’s a good idea it will make my work more accurate ! But it’ll still be me using it .

29/01/2021 10:34:06

Patj a most sensible answer. I wasn’t knocking 3d just after your opinions .

Ps if I new how to program computers I would certainly get a 3d printer ! Now there’s a retraction 😂😂😂

29/01/2021 09:54:34

The skills required for 3d are computer skills not model engineering ! Using a band saw or a hacksaw you still have to physically do it .Carving a piece of wood is hardly engineering is it . I was Just taking it to it’s logical conclusion.Like cnc it’s the computer program that’s doing the work.

28/01/2021 22:59:29

Eventually no one will build models just design them on a computer press the go button and there we have a finished model ! No skill and what have you achieved ? Before you say ,I’m not a Luddite . I just like making things with my hands . I’m sure I’m not alone with my statement . Let’s have a poll.

Thread: Hermes in action - Lost parcel ?
28/01/2021 15:41:37

DONT use Hermes they are useless. Stick with the RM doesn’t cost much more for quality. I used to sell model aircraft kits ,half of them had been used for football practice by the time they had arrived . Again Don’t use Hermes.
