Thread: Welding/brazing tips.. Propane vs Acetylene
11/03/2014 07:42:32

Yep you need to change to a propane tip, I use these a lot at my work place as they have just changed to propane and the ace tips are useless with propane. You can just change the tip, no need to change torch too.

Thread: 150mm dia grinding wheel, 30mm width ...is such available ?
01/03/2014 05:18:02

As others have said grinding Alu is not the best idea, Remember Alu dust and iron oxide make for a interesting sprint out the workshop. Probley best not to name the substance the two make, but you don't want it in your shop

Well today I tied out my shaper, think I have to work a bit on tool shape a bit tho. And I have to cut a new thread inside the knob for adjusting the table movement as some one replaced the shaft but cut the wrong size thread on it.

Thread: linishing machine
30/11/2013 13:41:06

Hi Dave I think there's plans for one on myhobby store site and its 50% off all plans there at the moment. Not sure on the size of it but might be worth a look. The big ones are silly money for what they are. Ah found it http://www.myhobbystore.co.uk/product/17552/linishing-machine-we21

Got it of the trailer and in the shed time for some cleaning. Can any one tell from the serial what year it is? also its a alba 2s not a 4s. Its actually not that bad under all the crud. Anyway some pics for yens.

Ah I see, well that has clinched it for me, the inverter it is. I'll put up some pics when she arrives. thanks all

14/11/2013 08:58:10

Humm I think i'm starting to lean more towards the inverter side if the motor can take it. A nice smooth finish is what i'm after and I can get the inverters and a motor if needed cheapish at my workplace. Can anyone explain why a 3 phase motor is smoother running than a single?

12/11/2013 19:23:34

Thanks for the help, I think it has a 3 hp motor on it but would need a power hose and spade to get through all the crud stuck on it to see it. Will see on Monday when it arrives.

Hi all well after a long time searching I have found a old shaper that needs some tlc and is heading for my shed. Its a alba 4s I think. Its got a 14 inch stroke, looks rough but a tidy up and coat of paint will sort that out. Now the thing is it's three phase, I want to change it to 240v single phase. what size hp motor would I need for it? also does anyone have any info on these machines, lathes.co.uk only has the 1a alba nothing about the 4s. thanks mark.

Thread: SIEG SC4 lathe opinions please
22/10/2013 22:08:49

I've got a comet vs lathe too (sc4) now for a few years and have been quite happy with it, huge amounts of torque for such a small lathe and the power feeds are really handy. The only thing I changed was the dial for the cross feed, I made a 200 division one that relates to the amount I'm taking off the work. which made things a lot more handy. Arc also have a collet chuck which fits straight on the spindle which I got which is nice. Wish they carried more stuff for it. hint hint wink
