Problem after sulphuric acid pickle

283 forum posts 7 photos	Using dilute sulphuric acid as a pickle, and copper comes out nice and pink. However after washing in tap water, it turns golden brown with black stains. Could this be caused by chlorinated tap water ?

283 forum posts 7 photos	Just done a pickle and washed in rainwater (not much acid rain where we live). Came out a lot cleaner.

361 forum posts	Depending on area of the country, maybe it was all the chalk (Alkali) in water, `fighting` the acid.

95 forum posts 2 photos	my method after pickling is then to scrub the boiler in hot soapy water in the domestic sink. the hot soapy water also helps get rid of heated flux deposits. it issurprising what extra muck comes off after such a wash in hot soapy water. the black stains included. cheers, julian Edited By julian atkins on 16/05/2012 11:56:12
