| 1 forum posts | Having built a number of Stuart stationary engines with my son, and now he wants to build a traction engine / steam lorry . I aquired a full set of castings for the 1" scale Meg steam lorry and a full set of castings for the 1" scale Greenly traction engine plus complete build instructions for both and he has shown a desire to build the Meg steam lorry . The material list includes items that bond's sold when they were in buisness but sadly have ceased tradeing a number of years ago. I have managed to sorce most of the bond's items namely the spur gears , sprockets and the worm and worm wheel through a link at www.modelengineeringweb.com but todate I can not sorce 5mm pitch roller chain and connecting link the smallest size that seems to be available is 6mm pitch if anybody can point me in the right direction to accuire the roller chain and connecting link I would be most grateful.

| 186 forum posts | RS do a range of smaller chains, if you can work out the system they use for advertising them. But expect to take out a second mortgage if you do find some you can use.

103 forum posts | Hi Bogs,
the smallest pitch on teh RS website is 6.35mm - suspiciously close to 1/4" Smaller chains are out there. But if you search google for 'chain' it includes results for 'belt'! So try a google search for: 5mm pitch chain -belt (note that minus sign before belt) This is on the first page: Unfortunately that's "price on application"!

| 102 forum posts 8 photos | Hi Barry You could try clock suppliers such as Meadows & Passmore as some clocks use small roller link chains to transfer power from the spring drum to the fusee. Regards, Martin. |

| 812 forum posts 157 photos | Hello Barry, I have a quantity of 3/16" chain(0.1875 as opposed to 0.196 for 5mm), it has been on my shelf for twenty years, I am sure I have the links somewhere. If you want I can post you some for nothing more than the cost of the postage, I am assuming you are in the UK? Send me a PM with your address if you wish to proceed, I cannot see me using this chain after all this time. Gray, Edited By Graham Meek on 09/05/2012 10:34:02 |
