I had a problem with split threads on my Drummond lathe. I had an 1915 Exe lathe.
It gave me the idea for a dog/pin clutch for constant mesh gear train you stop moter and shift the gear by handwind back etc
I know elf and safety would not like this. I have no reverse on the motor. & pedaling is a bit hard work. I have to refine this . It was set for 10 t.p.i.
I will put my flack jacket on?

Nobby,

Your description is a little vague, A single engagement dog clutch similar to that described by Graham Mek may well fit your purpose, and as regards the elfins, I presume this is a home workshop in which case elfinsafety is YOUR responsibility and no one elses

Can you expand on your requirements. If you can provide drawings of the machine and how the reversing system would be needed to fit, it would be helpful for all to assist in advising on the most appropriate solution.

regards

Graeme

HI Grame
I want to screw cut a 3/8" dia acme lead screw for my S7 mk 1 X slide. So when the myford is stripped down I can cut it under power on the Drummond. and check fits ect.
As I said if I fit the treadle reversing is ok . but its hard work .
The lathes are in my shed/workshop so thats fine no h.& s . you may have seen some of my other items on this forum.
I have been watching reversing switch's on Ebay but I was out bid.
I get a buzz out of making workshop items. I have already made a tap on the myford. please see photo of the leadscrew I wafabricated bracketnt to replace.
