I seem to remember the article showed two designs of front end, either Landrover, or Willys Jeep.

Yes ... you're right ! I went further and made a Land Rover " lightweight " / airportable type bonnet and front panel , 2 hillbilly motors and a split back axle for 2 wheel drive without a diff. Gearstick was an off on off switch switching the relays for reverse..

Did the original have a Sinclair motor?

There is a Landrover one along the street from me, it's had a fair bit of use, don't know about the mechanics of it, the dad of the family is a Landy collector, only 3 at the moment.

Can't remember , I have another half built one,and all the running gear from the blue one , unfinished ....and / but my daughters 14 now !! I also started on a petrol C90 powered one . That never got finished either .

 

My mate at the time bought his kids a c90 one and i was going to build my daughter one similar , I got the rolling chassis done....and an engine or two...+ 3 speed and reverse gearbox...

My chassis, phworrr look at that front suspension transverse leaf ..and leafs on the back too !! His was solid !

His had 4 hydraulic brakes  though , mine are cable and back brakes only ..good for broadside skids !
